We found Dr. Susca through the American Board of Fluency and Fluency Disorders website while searching for someone to evaluate our son (who was just under four years old) who was experiencing stuttering speech disfluencies. We wanted someone who had the experience, skills, patience, and empathy to help us as parents understand what was going on, and figure out how to best help our son and give him the best chance to overcome his disfluencies.
We were so lucky to have found Dr. Susca. From the first phone call where we talked about what was going on, to the parting wisdom of the very last meeting, Dr. Susca always created an encouraging, safe, and comfortable atmosphere that helped instill confidence in us and our son that ultimately resulted in our son (and us as parents) developing the skills and mindset to successfully handle and eventually overcome his disfluencies.
Not only is Dr. Susca one of only a handful of certified specialists for stuttering disfluencies in the United States, but he also seems to have an outstanding understanding of various research regarding disfluencies that provide a solid foundation for his work. He is also able to adapt and tailor treatment plans and advice for the needs of each individual to ensure they get the best treatment they need, instead of trying to force everyone into the same treatment plan, which We appreciated it. Dr. Susca did an amazing job engaging with our son and getting him to work through the exercises, which is no small feat when dealing with any 4-year old. Our son enjoyed his meetings with Dr. Susca and always looked forward to seeing him. We couldn’t be more thankful and happy with the results from working with Dr. Susca. Our son hasn’t experienced any episodes of stuttering, and anyone that meets him now has no idea of the obstacles with speech that he had to overcome, all thanks to Dr. Susca. What initially started out as a time of tribulation for us, was ultimately mitigated and successfully controlled through the help and caring of Dr. Susca. Speech Fluency has been a challenge for me over the years my effectiveness with my communication varied, which resulted in frequent struggles with stuttering. Hi Michael - 30 years later and I'm finally getting around to sending a proper thank you for your role in curing my stutter. Since we last spoke I successfully delivered my high school valedictory speech, and had a successful career in investment management where I was frequently called upon to speak publicly. I don't believe any of these successes would have been possibly without you. Certainly they wouldn't have gone so, well, fluently.

Dear Michael,
In life, many people will pass you by, but only a very few will substantially impact you in a critical way. You are that way for me. Your enormous input has reopened parts of my brain, which were lost by the injury. You helped me move forward by going around areas in my head that were no longer available. Thinking, writing, and speaking all improved by working with you. Although not entirely fixed or repaired, I am on the way and you have been a key part of this recovery. Ultimately this places you in the statement of people that “I will never forget!” Such is you, my great mentor and friend.
